Why is Prep Work So Important?
We all know that "PREP is KEY" right. It's an old saying, and it's true. The fact is, your floor is only as good as the preparation prior to your floor being installed. We take this step very seriously. We insure that all existing flooring is removed, holes, cracks, or divots are fill. Grout coat is installed(polished concrete) and any oil, dirt, grime, or contaminates are address. These steps are essential in a well bonded, and seamless floor. For the #1 concrete prep company in Florida, trust that Monster Flex Coatings has you covered!
Step 1- Floor Demolition
The first step to a successful epoxy coating or sealed/polished concrete floor is floor demolition/removal. In order for you have a brand new and beautiful sealed or concrete floor, or epoxy coatings, its 100% necessary to remove your existing floor. Is it possible to apply an epoxy coating, or concrete overlayment over your existing floor? The answer is yes, it's possible. However, your new floor is only as good as the substrate below it. If you choose to have us install your new floor over your existing floor, there are several steps needed to achieve it, including evaluating to see if i=the existing floor is well bonded. Also, we do not warranty your floor if you choose to not remove your existing floor. In the end, we always recommend doing floor removal.
Step 2 - Patch Work
Once the existing floor has been removed, we are able to expose the concrete holes, divots, cracks and imperfections. We clean them out, install a bonding primer for proper adhesion, then install either a cement based hole filler, or a epoxy based filler depending on the type of floor we are installing. We use FAST PATCH material so that the hole patch material dries quickly. This trick allows us to keep on schedule, be efficient and move the project along in a timely fashion while producing perfect results.
Step 2- Concrete Grinding
Concrete Grinding is an absolutely necessary priority in the concrete preparation process. We use a large propane grinding similar to the one shown in the picture using diamond grinding blade which remove the top layer of the concrete, level and smooth out the surface, and leave a deep scratch pattern which assist in the concrete coating process. This process is similar to finishing wood, or sanding a car. It creates the perfect surface for the concrete coating to bond to which insures that your new beautiful floor sticks, and doesn't bubble, chip, or release from the concrete slab. Keep in mind, this process does require a skilled installer and machine operator as well as HEPA vacuums that suck up the dust. We do not recommend this as a "DIY" task.
Step 4 - Thorough Vacuum & Cleaning
The final step in a properly prepared concrete floor preparation process is doing a several vacuum step process, as well and whipping down the floor, and cleaning in order to remove ALL dust from the concrete floor. This eliminates any surface dust particle from creating a "micro" barrier that may inhibit or prevent a proper bonding for the coating or other decorative concrete coating applications.
